  • Tour de France champion Cadel Evans hammers down the road through the Garden of the Gods on August 22. Evans flew to Colorado more than a week ahead of the race in an attempt to acclimate to the high altitude - more than 4,000 feet higher than any clime the European peloton had ever done before.
  • Frank Schleck, second runner-up in July's Tour de France and older brother of Andy, cuts the corners through the prologue of the USA Pro Cycling Challenge. Elite cyclists are notoriously this, especially through their upper bodies, Schleck is a case in point.

  • Garmin-Cervelo's Tom Danielson cuts a corner through the Garden of the Gods on his way to a 20th place finish in Monday's prologue. Danielson was the top-placing American in July's Tour de France and makes his home in Boulder.
  • US cycling hero Big George Hincapie prepares for the steep descent out of the Garden of the Gods during Monday's prologue. Rider reached speeds of nearly 60 miles per hour on the short, steep hills west of Colorado Springs.

  • A big gun in American road cycling, Levi Leipheimer, is a human bullet around the Garden of the Gods on Monday. While Leipheimer was 8 seconds off the lead on Monday, he grabbed the yellow jersey on Tuesday's stage to Mt. Crested Butte.
